Hello!

We are Calvin and Cassie Vogel, the owners of Gilbertville Locker.

Fun Facts:

Calvin grew up near Littleton, Iowa as a 4th generation crop and livestock farmer. He is married with three kids, and two fluffy Bernese mountain dogs. Some of his favorite activities include family vacations, Iowa Wrestling, hunting, and all things related to meat (especially eating it).

The Story:

Calvin became sick of being just a number to the big packing plants, which pushed him to recognize his own hunger for a more direct to consumer relationship. He saw consumers wanting to support local farmers but not knowing where to go, or how to get what they wanted. Providing the Cedar Valley with prime, fresh, locally raised meats became his focus.

With Calvin being a self employed farmer, and his wife Cassie owning a few businesses herself, they are no strangers to entrepreneurship and creativity.

Calvin started figuratively knocking on and kicking down doors of any and all opportunities. After it started seeming more like a dream just out of reach, Calvin came home to Cassie and said he talked to the (previous) owner of Gilbertville Locker. And ‘wouldn’t ya know.. he thinks he might just want to retire?’. After that conversation it was a true domino effect of things gradually falling into place. Calvin officially purchased the Locker in January of 2022.

Calvin then brought on his highly qualified and experienced Head of Operations, Garret, to run all day-to-day management and operating functions. He knew that between the two of them, and the rest of the already established and hardworking team, the locker would be in great hands.
