Hello!

Meet the Birkers: The New Owners of Gilbertville Locker

From managing the day-to-day operations to officially taking the reins, Garret is proud to step into his role as owner of Gilbertville Locker as of June 2026.

A Story Rooted in Agriculture

Garret and his wife, Victoria, are no strangers to the hard work it takes to bring high-quality food to the table. Both come from strong agricultural backgrounds and share a lifelong passion for farming and livestock.

Garret grew up on his family farm between Vinton and Urbana, Iowa, where they raised row crops, dairy cattle, and beef cattle. Victoria also grew up in agriculture, with her family producing row crops and operating a cow-calf herd. Garret brings nearly 15 years of hands-on experience in the meat processing industry.

Victoria complements that experience with an extensive background in animal care and business. She holds dual Associate degrees in Animal Science and Agricultural Science and spent 13 years working in a small animal veterinary clinic. Today, the Birkers continue their agricultural roots by operating their own farm nearby.

Together, their combined experience provides a deep understanding of livestock production, animal welfare, quality care, and the business operations needed to maintain a premier processing facility. The Birker family is committed to connecting local farmers with families seeking fresh, locally raised meats throughout the Cedar Valley.

Life Beyond the Locker

When they aren't ensuring operations at the locker run smoothly, Garret and Victoria are busy embracing their favorite roles—Mom and Dad. They enjoy spending time outdoors with their three children, Addilynn, Evelynn, and Jackson.

Whether they're caring for livestock, tending their garden, or exploring the countryside on their UTV, farm life keeps the entire family happily on the move.

The Birker family, along with the hardworking team customers already know and trust, is excited for this next chapter.

The Birkers would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Calvin and Cassie Vogel for modernizing the locker, investing in its future, and providing them with the opportunity to carry on this important trade. They look forward to honoring the tradition of quality processing while helping preserve and strengthen this vital craft for generations.
